Nowadays, it is not a secret that the best way to get a good job is through networking. Therefore, it is crucial to have good varied contacts.
On the other hand, the future of business is around Internet and Social Media. Thanks to both, the companies have an opportunity to identify their customers thus they can interact with them (knowing their preferences).
Andrew Zarick and Kaitlin Villanova know the importance of these factors and the importance of the entrepreneurs too. For this reason, on January 2009 they found Digital Dumbo. It is a monthly meeting for social media and marketing people where they share experience and new ideas. These events are celebrated in a wonderful area in Brooklyn called Dumbo.
On March 26th, the meeting of Digital Dumbo was celebrated for the first time outside New York, the chosen city was Valencia (Spain).
In its last meeting in New York, on May 26th, some members of Frikonomics were there. We were talking with Andrew Zarick, he recommend us to ask to the participants why were they there.
Some people told us that this was their first time and they were there to meet people and learn new things for their jobs.
Other people with more experience told us that the main reason why they were there was the chance to meet people. In a big city as New York with a frenetic rhythm of life, this is difficult. Here, you can meet people who work in the same sector as you.
This day there were a lot of people from mobile phone industry. Thanks to the good job for the organizers, this event was sponsored by AT&T. For an ice breaker, the people asked us if we had an iPhone, a BlackBerry or an Android.
Why would such a big and important company, as AT&T, sponsor this kind of event? Is it useful? One of the producers of the event told us our company thinks that networking is a good way to share knowledge and this is an opportunity for everybody.
In my opinion, these kind of events are a good example for the current dynamic business world, where relationships are so important.
